English Admissions Requirements for FCIS:

A student whose native language is not English or is coming from a school where the language of instruction is not English, is required to sit for an online English assessment.

Students applying to Forest City International School for the secondary school (grades 6 – 12) are required to demonstrate minimum proficiency in English by taking a WIDA English assessment.

When deciding admission for an applicant, the admissions department, working with school administration, considers the student’s score on the English Exam along with his or her strengths and weakness in other subject areas.

The level of EAL support will be determined by our dedicated team of educators who specialize in this area of support to international students. Within a few weeks of EAL placement, a second WIDA test is administered to access growth in English proficiency.  Many students came to us with little to no English but today are exceling in their work. We pride ourselves on helping each of our students attain success.

Early Childhood:  No formal testing of students.

Lower School:  EAL support will be given to students who do not meet the required English level. The online English test might be done in the Admissions Office or off-site (e.g., in the student’s school or home).

Upper School:  Students must meet the minimum language requirement to gain entry to the grade level. As part of Admissions process, online English testing is required.

All high school students must meet the required English proficiency. Limited support is available for students who require EAL. Online English testing will be required during time of Admissions.

Learning Needs Requirement:

We will make the effort to cater to individual learning needs. We can accept students with learning needs as long as we have the resources to adequately support his/her academic needs.

FCIS management reserves the right to accept or reject an application. There might be a situation where we might not have adequate resources to support a child’s special need. Having the child’s best interest in mind, we might decline an application.
